The Pinhole Surgical Technique can restore your confidence and your oral health by reversing gum recession. The best part is that this technique does not require the use of a scalpel or sutures. Dr. John Chao, D.D.S., patented this surgical technique to provide a non-invasive method of repairing gums with little to no pain or bleeding, as opposed to traditional gum grafting surgery.
Gum grafting vs. Pinhole technique
Until now, the only way to repair gum recession was to use a scalpel and sutures, attaching healthy gum tissue to the area being treated. This left the patient with a long, and painful recovery. Often, patients could only undergo treatment one or two teeth at a time, because the procedure was so invasive. With the Pinhole Surgical Technique, you can experience a gum transformation during your lunch break, and then be back to work the same day! Recovery time for the Pinhole Surgical Technique is minimal, leaving patients with little to no pain, bleeding or swelling.
The Pinhole Surgical Technique procedure
The procedure consists of the dentist making your mouth numb in the area that is to be treated. Then, using a small instrument, the dentist makes tiny entry points in your gums, directly above the area of the gum recession. Special instruments are then used to gently stretch the gums into the correct place over the exposed areas of the teeth. To hold the gums in place, collagen fibers are placed under the gums. This also helps promote the growth of new collagen. Cosmetic results appear almost instantly.
